Weird mental health question.
When people talk about flashbacks, do they really mean "experiencing it as if it was real all over again"? Like, that's a thing your brain can do?
When people talk about flashbacks, do they really mean "experiencing it as if it was real all over again"? Like, that's a thing your brain can do?

Yes. It's like a fugue where your brain starts involuntarily replaying the memory. Another kind of flashback is that while you're not actively thinking about that event, your emotional state changes to reflect it in a way that is incongruous to your circumstances. It can actually be hard to distinguish sometimes when you're having a flashback b/c our brains work hard to justify every emotion we have.
