That was... sure something

In today's Dear Prudence, a couple tried to kidnap their deceased son's child because the widow was trying to move to her home country.

If I were to hazard a guess, I'd say "my in-laws are the sort of people who would kidnap my son to get their way" is part of the reason why she's moving far away.

If they're in the US, what are the odds that "grandparental rights laws" would have come up eventually if she'd stayed?
