If you write a book portraying a historical figure, like, oh, Leonardo da Vinci, as a vampire or robot or alien, no one will bat an eye.

But write a book in which Leonardo falls in love with another man and you'll wake up with an angry mob outside your house.

1: Did you choose Leonardo da Vinci for a specific reason, or..

2: I know this isn't what you meant, but it honestly reminds me of that thing in the RPF community where writing someone as trans is far more HORRIBLE and OFFENSIVE than writing them as like a vampire or even gay.

One of these things is much more plausible than the other.

1: (knew it)

2: I mean, it kinda gets ridiculous when the fandom agrees that yes, writing Japanese Rock Musician X as a sexy bloodsucker is a natural extrapolation of his stage persona and is de rigueur in certain circles, but to write him as transgender/nonbinary as an extrapolation of the fact that he wears fancy dresses on stage all the time is HORRIBLE AND OFFENSIVE AND WHY WOULD YOU THINK THAT-

"Ahah fuck you they're all genderqueer now"
