Cops shot a guy about ten blocks from where we live on Monday.

Their party line is "he attacked us first" but a) I have a very low suspension of disbelief for what cops say when it comes to their murder habits and b) I know perfectly well that if the guy had been white, he'd be alive right now and probably out on bail.

(To give you an idea of where we live, my spouse is the only white person in this cluster of neighborhoods, and likely the only one who hasn't had bad personal experiences with cops. And there are a lot of white cops around here.)

And then there's this -

Three small local newspapers, only people reporting on it: "Nothing is known about [victim]."

Little popup memorial at the site of the death: [picture of dude with his preteen daughter] [picture of dude with his soccer team] [picture of dude getting married in his military uniform] [picture of dude painting]

Journalists don't hold themselves to very high standards, do they?

White guys get deescalated, disarmed, or disabled. Non-white people get murdered. Cops who feel threatened by non-attacking non-white people will still murder them anyways. Cops don't feel threatened by non-attacking white people (unless other factors are in play, like being disabled or homeless).

It's not "news" if it's not "new" :I
