You can't cook-at-home/buy-in-bulk your way out of debt or into house ownership, but I just did the math, and if my coworkers weren't buying takeout for lunch every day, they could afford hobbies.
god knows takeout isn't as cheap as it used to be, either... i miss the days when i could get lunch for $5. now i can maybe cook myself lunch for $5 ... if i only eat potatoes and onions :/
and the cheapest takeout worth eating where i live bottoms out at, like, $15 minimum.
anyway i know what you're getting at but ough i hate paying so much for food; i'm not trading in my hobbies for it but GOD i'd love to buy takeout more than twice a month.
(also like, I've heard some things about your coworkers. I struggle to believe some of them are complex enough people with rich enough inner lives to pick up anything more interesting than a desire to, idk, complain loudly about strangers and find excuses to shove ableist nonsense into every conversation, but on twitter instead of in person this time)
