Today I learned, courtesy of my spouse: music with a deceptively slow beat but fast elements is a common way to signify "this is epic" in media (especially games).
Hello blorbo from my show Into fanfic you now go I have headcanons like woah The plot bunnies, they just grow And the plot twist that was planted in my brain Still remains So now of course you suffer
It's been fourteen years since I last lived under the same roof as my oldest sibling and had to listen to daily repeated Moonlight Sonata piano practice, and YET I heard the first few notes and started frothing at the mouth like Pavlov's dog.
Brain: So it makes sense for shanties to have both a completely regular beat, because that's necessary to get all the sailors to synchronize movements like pulling a line or rowing, and also minimal tonal difference, since who's going to worry about notes when you're doing heavy lifting like that.
Me: Can we enjoy ANYTHING without going all academic about it?
