Me: Why is the left side of my body in so much more pain than the right?

Brain: [plays the highlight reel of all the awful things that have happened to the left side of our body: self-harm, parental violence, multiple sports injuries, car accident]

Me: ...how are we still alive?

To be honest, I'm now wondering how many of my accidents and injuries were "not so bad" only because of the combination of high pain tolerance and dissociation on top of my family's insistence that it was FINE and going to the hospital was a WASTE OF MONEY.
