What I could mean when I say "I forgot":

• Instructions were unclear and I was too embarrassed to admit that I didn't understand the request.
• I was going to, but I was busy with more important things.
• You didn't explain why I ought to do it so I just didn't think it was important.
• Didn't have the confluence of ability and desire to do it.
• You were such a jerk when you told me to do it that I spite-avoided it.
• I am legitimately incapable of doing the thing, but I don't want to admit my disabilities to you.
• Someone else said they'd do it and I believed them.
• I spent so long thinking about doing it that I accidentally convinced myself I'd done it.
• Sometimes, very rarely, I actually forgot.
