Me: "Recreational marijuana being illegal in every state at the time I was in high school did not stop every single bathroom in every single school in my county from smelling like weed every single day, but it did give cops an excuse to put Black people, including Black teenagers, in jail. I have zero faith that raising the smoking age will stop teens from smoking tobacco, either, but it will put more Black youth in prison. Or give cops an 'excuse' to shoot them."
A dozen self-proclaimed progressives: "But we have to keep cigarettes out of high school! Kids are getting cigarettes from their 18-20 year old friends and bringing them to school!"
Me: "And for that matter, the drinking age being 21 since before I was born didn't stop anyone in my high school from drinking, either."
Self-proclaimed progressives: "But tobacco is really dangerous and young adults aren't mature enough to handle it!"
