If you live in a blue area (as I do) and you pay attention (as I do) you'll notice that there's a certain smug superiority among liberals, a "ha, we're not bigoted like those red state people" while being exactly as bigoted, just quieter and more polite about it.

(Fun fact: I've gotten more cissexism from liberals than conservatives.)
