I would further posit that there's a link between orthorexia and purity culture, with the obessession with "cleanliness" extending not just to physical but also to moral things, such as what media a person consumes, what organizations they belong to, what they vote for, etc, with "impure" things/people being excised and denounced just as surely as "impure" foods.

But for that essay you'll have to wait until I don't have a migraine.
