A thing that happened a lot:
1. My mother visited her friends for a couple of days. While there, she played a board/card/dice game with her friends and their kids and saw that they had a lot of fun.
2. My mother decided that this game was good for family harmony and enjoyment and bought it.
3. We (my parents, siblings, and I) played the game. Someone (usually my father) would start yelling at and insulting the rest of us.
4. Everyone had a miserable time and my mother couldn't tell why. It must've been the game?
We had a whole shelf of boxed testaments to the fact that we just fundamentally all hated each other.
