Just thinking about how middle and high school PE was like... the WORST way to get kids to be active.
I like doing sports! I like exercising! I like stretches! I like bouncing around the room like a roadrunner high on meth! (Now I'm sick and can't do it like I used to, but I still LIKE it.)
What I do not like is being forced to do physical activity on demand by authority figures who yell at me rather than explaining how to do things the right way.

It also put me off a few things (like badminton) that I did for fun by making the experience so unpleasant.

And then you get kids who are just now learning that exercise can be Not Terrible.

Meanwhile if you'd shown me some gymnasts doing cool splits I would've learned to do them all on my own for fun.
