Currently writing a chapter entirely (or close to it, anyway) in the passive voice, to show how the viewpoint character feels disconnected from the action and her own body, and it reminded me of a thing.

Long ago, when I was just getting into novel writing, I wrote a section from the perspective of an anxious, twitchy, unfocused (read: ADHD) protagonist, which was written almost entirely in run-on sentences ending in ellipses. I then proceeded to send this section to a beta reader.

Who tore it to metaphorical shreds* over the fact that all the sentences were runons that trailed off.

*probably only said something like "this is horrible grammar" but I had the emotional regulation of a first grades so it FELT like being torn to shreds
