The difference between a scientist and an engineer:
A scientist will see a leaking cyanide bottle, tape it closed, and go about the rest of their day without thinking about it.
An engineer will see a leaking cyanide bottle and spend the next two months prototyping a complex gizmo to close it, leaving the bottle itself to keep leaking in the meanwhile.
This is why every lab has safety officers. You cannot trust scientists or engineers to actually solve the problem in a reasonable and timely way.
