When I let people assume I was binary trans, they used the correct binary pronouns almost all the time, and it was generally understood that using the other binary set was a jerk move.
Now that I'm openly genderqueer and use rotating he/she, even the most progressive self-proclaimed allies treat me as cis, and people will say things like "I'm misgendering you because it makes me feel better as a feminist" to my face.
