I'm pretty sure that if you find a way to change Western society to make aggression a "female" trait and peacekeeping a "male" one, and in two hundred years we'll see sociological studies about how testosterone just NATURALLY makes people more placid.

Okay I just looked it up and I'm mostly getting "dogs that don't mother their puppies" articles. With quotes around the phrase it's stuff about fish and cats.

I'm guessing it's a "this [probably Black and/or queer] mother beat up someone who smacked her kid, this is BAD MOTHERING" or some such bullshit? Like "protecting your kid" is some sort of aberrant behavior that men never exhibit?

Or the idea that a woman will go absolutely comically berserk if their children/pet project/pet idea is so much as criticised, and that women can be vicious when in competition with other women because they're trying to "secure the best circumstances for their (substitute) children". It's basically the same Bad Biology shit as when people say male aggression is born out of an instinct to protect the herd but applied to women.

Oh yeah, I've definitely seen that, just without the label. Because we all know men are ~rational~ and women are ~emotional~ amirite? /s And the effect of how people were raised in this highly gendered society, or the fact that scarcity and financial instability do really horrible things to a person's mind, just... don't get examined at all.

(Side note: I find the fact that we're both nonbinary and discussing this mightily hilarious. "Some people can't be neatly fit into the male/female dichotomy" throws a huge wrench in the whole thing.)

Ha, I've definitely done that! Maybe even with you? I don't remember, a surprising number of my conversations are about this sort of stuff. (I'm demi, so while I do feel attraction, there's a lot of "what the FUCK, people" going on in my head.)
