What is it about mental illness that makes people declare, to the faces of mentally ill people, that it's 100% genetic and that there's no possible way that adversity or a lack of support to deal with said adversity could have contributed in any way?
It is the most bizarre belief and I would like to have a few stern words with whoever is propagating it.

Weirdly, I've gotten both of these mostly from mentally ill people. Who, you'd think, would know better than to lecture someone else about their own brain stuff. (I had a veeeeeery interesting conversation with someone named psychoticpoodle or something who insisted that mental illness had nothing to do with trauma. That... did not go over well with my followers.)
