It's amazing, really. My parents spent fifteen years telling me that I was a total idiot for choosing my profession, that a trained monkey could do the job, that the whole thing was bloody useless.

But once I got a $55K/year job at a well-known and respected company making medical devices? Suddenly it was "our child is SO SMART and SO WONDERFUL, he's finding cures for cancer, we raised this kid, we're the best parents ever!"
