Landlords are getting a divorce. Not a pretty one. This looks like the third time they've started divorce proceedings.
He claims she's abusing him, she claims he's abusing her, there's a whole legal thing with restraining orders and child support arguing and yeesh I do not want to be one of the kids in that situation. Ultimately we're staying as far out from this as possible though.
We just got a tearful email from one of them - they're ending our lease (that we just resigned a few months ago, go figure) early.
Lease says we need written warning 6 weeks in advance. We're already looking for new places to live and a tenant's rights lawyer (I am so glad this place has tenant right laws but holy crap do I not understand legalese).
Annoyingly, we initially intended to move when our lease was up in May - and then whoops, the world kinda-sorta collapsed so we figured it was best not to move for another year.
Blugh. We'll figure it out somehow, I'm just really frustrated, and my partner's a nervous wreck.

My mom keeps telling me and my sister that now's a great time to buy a house, because lots of people are getting kicked out and the prices are low! Which is extremely cursed and we both hate her for being an asshole landlord!

At the moment I'm problem-solving (and putting every possible solution, even ridiculous ones like "somehow move us into the apartment I technically own 1/3 own in my home country" and "guilt trip my parents into signing over a half million dollar check for a house" down). I'll probably have the epic freak-out about 48-240 hours from now, once a lawyer and a plan have materialized.
...isn't it convenient that my partner and I have different freaking out timetables?
