I'm just spitballing here, but I feel like a lot of people don't distinguish between "this is what I personally want to happen" vs "this is good political praxis" much if at all.

So you end up with people - many of them traumatized - who think about how much they want to get revenge on their abusers (but other abusers will do in a pinch) and translate that into "lock up everyone who's even kind of sort of abused anyone forever and torture them" as a thing they want passed into law and... no, just no.

Apparently it's a common expression?

I'd never even heard the expression "let's circle the wagons" until someone pointed out that it was racist.

Actually, I still haven't heard it outside the context of "don't say this, it's racist" for some reason.

It's amazing, really. My parents spent fifteen years telling me that I was a total idiot for choosing my profession, that a trained monkey could do the job, that the whole thing was bloody useless.
