I was on the phone speaking to a hospital employee trying to get this (waves at lungs) checked out.
Them: "Male or female doctor?"
Me: "Female, please."
Them: "Okay, so I have [list of names], any preference?"
I was not asked anything else. But here's the thing: I have never had a good encounter with a white doctor, and at this point I just refuse to see them. I don't know what it is: general white mediocrity, or they look at my Distinctly Foreign name and treat me with the well-known medical racism, or something else. So I really appreciate being able to avoid them, which is easy when I can pick on a website that has pictures, not so much when I'm speaking on the phone with a stranger.
In the end, I went with the doctor who had a Korean name - yeah, she could be a white woman who took her husband's name, but still the best bet.
I have no idea what I would have done if I needed to avoid straight or skinny doctors, or any other factors that you can't guess from name.
